Chief Magistrate at Kira Court in Kampala, Uganda, Ms Roseline Nsenge has sentenced 18-year-old Tanzanian national, Kaftah Queen, to three years in jail after pleading guilty to a charge of aggravated torture.

The student at Trinity College Nabweru and a group of other girls still at large, beat up a 15-year-old girl, Nicole, slapping, kicking and dragging her on the floor in a house.

While sentencing her on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, the judge noted that although Kaftah has shown remorse, the court has a duty to teach the public that such actions are not allowed in the society.

"I hereby sentence Kaftah Queen to three years in prison. The punishment should deter other children from getting involved in such acts,” she ruled.

Prosecution led by Mr Edward Tweheyo states that Kaftah and others still at large on January 8, at Nsasa in Kira Municipality, Wakiso District, inflicted injuries on a female juvenile aged 15, accusing her of being in love with Kaftah's boyfriend identified as Derrick Lwanga.

She was arrested a few days after a video recording, which showed them torturing the teenage girl, went viral on social media.

She has been on remand at Luzira prison since January 17, 2023.

The hearing in the murder case of Super TV CEO, Usifo Ataga, continued today November 11 at the Lagos State High Court, sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square TBS, with Nkechi Mogbo, owner of the short-let apartment at 19, Adewale Oshin Street, Lekki Phase 1, where the body of late Ataga was found, narrating how different leads pointed to the fact that Chidinma Ojukwu as the prime suspect in the case. Giving an account before the court, Mogbo said she advertised her apartment on property websites like Airbnb for a short stay and had agents on the market that advertised for her.

“On June 13, it was on a Sunday, I was at home. About 4pm, I got a phone call from a private number, the first I ignored and the second I picked up. Then there was a lady who said she saw the apartment online and enquired as to whether we have the necessary facilities, which I responded yes. She said she would like to have a look at it and I said she could. She sent a message on WhatsApp with the picture of the apartment obviously indicating where she got it from. I sent her the address and she confirmed she would be on her way to the place.”she said. Mogbo told the court that she further put a call through to the security, Abubakar, explaining that the lady would be coming to see the place. Upon checking, the lady, who identified herself with the name ‘Jewel’, said she would take the apartment for three days.

“She asked for payment details, which I forwarded across to her, within a couple of minutes, she sent the proof of payment of N125,000. It contained the initiator of the payment, Michael Usifo, from a GTB account, the time and date of the transaction, and my name as the recipient,” she said

She told the court that following the payment, the security man handed her female client the key to the apartment on the same day.

“Two days after, at about 5:30pm. – June 15, she was due to check out on June 16, I got a message from the lady that her friend would like to extend for three more days, and that he would be making the payment the next day, which would be on the 16th.”

She said at 10 am. on June 16, she received a credit notification from the same account, confirming payment of N50,000 for two additional days by the same Michael Usifo.

“Hours later, I put a call across to my security man on a different issue, upon which he made a remark that they had noticed a body on the ground of the said apartment.”

Mogbo told the court she immediately started panicking but asked the whereabouts of the lady because the security man confirmed the deceased was a guy.

“He said she left the night before at about 7:30pm to 8pm and didn’t return. I got off the phone and tried to reach the lady. I put a call across to her but she cut the call. She then sent a message saying she was in a meeting. I didn’t want to alert her as to what I was aware of.

I carried on, saying the payment which she sent in the morning, unfortunately, wasn’t credited. I told her, so can you make the payment again because I made a mistake to acknowledge receipt? She said she would reach her friend for him to make the payment. Couple of minutes after, I got another initiation of payment for the same sum of N50,000 from the same initiator, the person of Mr Michael. When she made the payment, I was already on my way to the property to get a proper understanding of what had happened, after which I went straight to the police station,” she narrated

Mogbo added that she sent a message to the lady that she had received the initial N50,000 which she (the owner) claimed she didn’t receive, and that she had given the security man the cash of the extra N50,000, so she should pick it from him.

“I devised the means to lure her to come to the property after the security had confirmed she left the day before. She sent a message that she would like to use the N50,000 for another two days.”

Mogbo further narrated that she filed a report at the Maroko police station, and police officers followed her back to the apartment to get photographs and a better understanding of what happened. She told the court that she wrote a statement and the police arranged for the body to be taken out to the morgue and took his personal items including the car as evidence.

She said she reported back to the police station the next morning, and they went to state CID, Yaba, where she met with the Deputy Commissioner of Police.

“I was made to write more statements and was detained for seven days, to assist with the case. During this time, I was interviewed, they collected different evidence. On the sixth night, I was called by the DCP to his office; there was a young lady present, two older ladies, and a couple of officers. He asked me if I could recognise the young lady and I said no.”Mogbo said

She said it was at that point she remembered she had a picture saved on her phone, and that she pulled out her phone and asked the lady if it was her, to which she confirmed yes.

“The security man, whom she was in contact with and always calling to put on the generator or pump the water said one day, she mistakenly called him with her number around 2:30am, after which she hung up and called with a private number telling the security man to turn on the generator.

During the investigation, the security man passed the phone number as a possible lead. He saved the number and was able to get the photograph used as the profile picture.

''During the police investigation, when my phone record was printed, the same number also matched my incoming call number on Sunday 13th June, which the caller tried to hide, but couldn’t hide from the network providers,” she narrated.

Mogbo further told the court that the suspect, now identified as Ojukwu, avoided calling with her phone number as the Whatsapp chat history between them was with a foreign phone number, registered as an American number. She told the court that she provided all the chats between them and sent to the police by email and also printed a copy while in custody.

Adeyemi, who led her in evidence, requested to tender the WhatsApp records as evidence in the matter. This was, however, met with objections from the lawyers to the defendants.

Onwuka Egwu, the lawyer to Ojukwu, opposed the admissibility of the document as evidence in the matter.

“The document offends Section 102 subsection B of the Evidence Act. In her evidence, she went to the police to complain and during the investigation, records were printed from her phone. This document has traversed from Maroko to Panti, to the DPP, by virtue of that movement, it has become a public document. It is not coming from her, it came from the custody. It is a document subject to certification for admissibility purpose,” he said, citing the case of FRN vs Danladi.

The lawyer to the second defendant, Babatunde Busari, also aligned himself to the position of the first defendant’s counsel. He said the document flouted section 84, subsection 2 of the Evidence Act as there was “no endorsement from the Commissioner for oath.”

The lawyer to the third defendant, A.O Odunsanya, said he had no objection to the documents being admitted as evidence.

Adesanya, from the DPP, further argued that the documents are relevant to the case and original to the witness because she printed the documents herself from her phone using the printer of the police. In her ruling, the judge, Yetunde Adesanya, said the objections of the lawyers to the defendants failed and are accordingly overruled. Adesanya said the Evidence Act was clear as to what a public document is and the documents before the court are owned by the witness, who was tendering them and not the police or the DPP. She admitted the documents as exhibits E1.

The lawyer to the first defendant sought an adjournment to cross-examine the witness, saying Ojukwu has not had the opportunity of look at the documents as they received them on Tuesday in the open court. The lawyers to the second and third defendants said they have no cross-examination for the witness, as the totality of the evidence does not touch on their clients. Adesanya adjourned the matter till November 15 for further hearing.

SHOCK As ‘Female Prisoner’ Is Discovered To Be Actually Male

There was chaos and drama at Shurugwi Female Prison last week after a supposedly female prisoner was discovered to be a male.

According to the Masvingo Mirror, at the time of his arrest 22-year-old Praise Mpofu was dressed as a woman. Mpofu is alleged to have been in the business of pretending to be a female lady of the night in order to lure male clients. He would then steal from them.
Mpofu was arrested after he allegedly stole from a man from Gweru’s Mkoba 6 suburb. The man had hired Mpofu’s services, while under the impression that he was dealing with a woman. When they got to his home where they were supposed to spend the night, Mpofu stole from the man and ran away.

However, his luck ran out when he was arrested a few days later when he was spotted in Mkoba 6. At the time of his arrest, he was dressed as a woman, in a skirt and a blouse. He also spotted a female hairstyle and was wearing a stuffed bra to give off the impression that he had an ample bosom.

When Mpofu appeared at the Gweru Magistrate’s Court facing charges of theft, he did not reveal that he was actually male and continued with the ruse. As a result, the magistrate ordered that he should be remanded at the Shurugwi Female Prison.

However, due to logistical issues, Mpofu could not be transported to the female prison. Instead, he was temporarily detained at the Gweru Young Offenders Prison where he was housed with juvenile female offenders for two days.

When the authorities finally found transport to take Mpofu to the Shurugwi Female Prison, prison officials there made a shocking discovery.
Midland Prisons spokesperson Nevson Tagarira confirmed the case to the Masvingo Mirror saying

“Yes, there was an inmate who came from ZRP through the magistrate’s court pretending to be a female. It was only identified at Shurugwi Female Prisons through our normal channels on admission that he was actually a male inmate, not a female as he was pretending to be. Mpofu was taken from Shurugwi female prison to Hwahwa Maximum Prison on the same day.”

A female nurse who is responsible for searching all new prisoners got the shock of her life when she discovered that the new prisoner was actually male. Another source told the publication,

“Mpofu spend two days at Gweru Young Offenders prison where he did not divulge that he was a male and he was treated as a female. The matter came to light when he was to be detained at Shurugwi Female Prison that he was not a female. One could not figure out that Mpofu is a male he had a nice hairstyle, breasts and he was wearing a skirt just like a lady. Mpofu was arrested after he stole from a man who had hired him as a prostitute, Mpofu stole money and fled before he fulfilled the duties he was hired for.”

Mpofu’s case is still pending at the courts.

A dramatic scene was recorded at a Kenyan court in Nairobi on Monday, September 20, as a 13-year-old boy testified that he "willingly" had sex with their 32-year-old househelp for eight months.

Testifying on camera after the househelp was granted cash bail, the boy said the affair began in July 2020.

He told the court that he had sex with the househelp whose name initials are V.N.W. at least 3 times a week and it usual occurred between 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm on those specific days.

The minor said;

“She told me it’s our secret that I should not tell anyone, and as a result, I never told my parents except when I was caught watching pornography using my sister’s phone."

The boy also revealed that he was usually aroused after watching pornography and they would sometimes have sex mostly in the kitchen and in the sitting room when everyone was asleep.

He further disclosed that he would steal his sister’s phone to continue watching pornography after using the househelp’s phone. The minor said the househelp kept telling him that what they were doing was wrong but he couldn’t stop.

When asked if he was forced into the act, he said;

“No. I felt the urge so I removed my pants to do it without being forced after we did it for the first time.”

V.N.W was first arraigned and charged with defiling a 13-year-old boy for eight months and exposing the adolescent victim to pornographic content in February 2021.

At that time, it was alleged that V.N.W committed the offence in Mwiki area, Kasarani, Nairobi County between July 2020 and February 2021. The househelp was charged with promoting a sexual offence for allegedly showing the minor pornographic content and performing an indecent act with a child.

Documents presented in court revealed that the act was uncovered by chance as the parents disciplined the boy on February 21.

The boy’s sister had complained that she had lost her phone while in the house. After asking for it from her adolescent brother and sister who both denied taking the phone, she sought for her parents' intervention.

While being flogged, the boy who couldn't take the pain confessed to using his sister’s phone to watch pornography after allegedly being introduced to the vice by the househelp. He was rushed to a clinic for a medical test before the incident was reported to the police.

Police said the boy revealed that the house help began the abuse by first showing him videos of people engaging in sexual intercourse. This continued until she began abusing the minor herself.

The suspect has denied the charges and was granted ksh300,000 cash bail or ksh500,000 bond. The matter will continue for hearing on September 24, 2021

Two teenagers from How Mine Secondary School have been arrested after they allegedly raped a seven-year-old girl at a community hall.

The teenagers reportedly gave her some sweets to buy her silence.

B-Metro reports that a family member, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the two suspects were aged 14 and 15 years old.

Allegations are that the 15-year-old teenager master-minded the rape ordeal by giving the Grade Two pupil sweets and after that inviting the minor to a community hall to play.

When they got there he played with the unsuspecting child and after some minutes they were joined by his 14-year-old friend, the source said.

After the act, the 15-year-old gave the minor more sweets so as to buy her silence, said the source.

The source said after the ghastly act, the minor bled and walked with difficulty. Her mother got suspicious when she saw her walking in that state and asked what happened to her.

She revealed to her mother what had happened. She was taken to How Mine clinic, where she was referred to United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH), where she was examined and it was confirmed she was raped.

The minor’s mother reported the rape incident at How Mine police base leading to the arrest of the two suspects.

Marilyn Hartman, a serial American stowaway with a history of illegally boarding planes without a ticket, is back in jail after being arrested at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport.

The 69-year-old, known as the “Serial Stowaway”, was tracked after her electronic monitor was allegedly activated when she left the facility where she was staying. She was caught attempting to stowaway on a flight at Chicago O'Hare International Airport on Tuesday, March 16.

She is currently being held on a trespassing charge, reports Associated Press.

Marilyn has snuck onto more than 30 commercial flights without a ticket.

In 2018, she managed to get through security at O'Hare and board a flight to London Heathrow without a passport or a ticket.

She was last arrested in October 2019 as she attempted to pass security at Chicago O’Hare security, one of the busiest airports in the US.

After the latest incident, Cook County Judge David Nararro told Hartman: "You didn't just go for a walk, you went to the one place you specifically can't go… O'Hare Airport."

She has been charged with escaping from electronic monitoring, and will next appear in court on Monday, March 22.

Hartman's lawyer, Andrea Lubelfeld said she visited the airport for the first time in a year because she was upset after seeing herself in a TV news interview.

Andrea Lubelfeld added: "She has a mental illness that was triggered by something out of her control, and she reacted not, perhaps, in making the best choice."

Her latest arrest comes two weeks after a judge rejected a plea deal for 18 months of probation for a previous stowaway attempt.

Officials are planning to seek a felony escape charge for Hartman.

Hartman first boarded a flight illegally in 2002 from Chicago to Copenhagen in Denmark. That same year, she caught another international flight to Paris without a ticket.

In August 2004,  she was caught flying from San Jose in California to Las Vegas.

On being asked how she managed to get past the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoints without a boarding pass, she told CBS News: “I was always let through. I mean I was able to go through the security line without a boarding pass.”

She added: “I got by them, this is the thing that is so crazy, by following someone they would be carrying like a blue bag. And the next thing I know, I get into the TSA line and TSA lets me through, and they think I’m with the guy with the blue bag.”

The female warder who was caught having sex with a male inmate in an office in a prison in South Africa, has been suspended.

This is coming after National correctional services spokesperson, Singabakho Nxumalo disclosed that a disciplinary process has been launched over the incident which occurred at Ncome Correctional Centre.

Graphic video clips of the encounter have raised questions about how the cellphone the prisoner used to film the sex escapade found its way into the prison.

The national correctional services spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo told radio 702 on Wednesday March 17, that more prison officials might be punished if found culpable.

Nxumalo said;

“We have suspended the official involved and we’ve taken disciplinary measures against the inmate.

“The investigation is much broader than the two people seen on the video because ... We need to understand if it is just an isolated incident or if there is more to it and if there are other players."

The probe will look into how the pair managed to walk to and gain access to the office, and the origin of the cellphone which is regarded as contraband in prison.

He added;

“We do not want them [cellphones] in our centres. This is a classic case, a cellphone was used to record this.

"Cellphones are just one item in the long list of contraband items that are not allowed because they cause harm to the victims outside and used to plan other crimes. They could even order hits on others.

“It’s completely unpalatable. I don’t think that the nation would deserve to see something like that, captured in video, and you are correct, both of them [were] fully aware they are recording this thing.

“Sexual activities between inmates and correctional officials are shameful incidents that can never be ascribed to what is expected of our officials. The official involved has been identified and she will be subjected to a disciplinary process with immediate effect.

“Correctional officials are expected to abide by a code of conduct, and despicable acts of sexual activities with inmates shall never be tolerated. We appeal to those in possession of the video to refrain from disseminating it."

Nxumalo also told TimesLIVE on same Wednesday that claims shared on social media about the warder taking her own life, were not true.

"They fought a lot because of this on the night she took my brother's life."

The victim's sister, Roberta, told local media her brother employed her at his company and they had a year-and-a-half-long relationship.

She said: "From what we saw, she was just with him out of self-interest. She liked to show off, but she never posted anything about him.

"It seems he discovered something serious about her and they broke up."

According to Roberta, the suspect went to the victim's house and said she wanted to speak to him.

Hours later, his family was told he had been shot.

She said: "She still had access. Before arriving, she switched off the house's cameras.

"She premeditated everything.

"When she fired the shot, she walked out and called her mother to tell her.

"Her mother told my brother and the two of them went there. My brother arrived and saw him dying in the kitchen."

She appeared with a lawyer at the Specialized Homicide Police and Kidnappings (DEHS) on Monday, March 8, but claimed the shooting was accidental.

Chief Marilia Campello, deputy of DEHS, said: "Cristina confessed to the crime, but claimed she had no intention of killing Paulo Roberto.

"She said the businessman had two firearms, one in the house and the other in the car.

The investigation is ongoing.

26-year-old Precious Teya from Chitungwiza in Zimbabwe, who was arrested last week for reportedly sleeping with a 13-year-old boy has challenged the minor’s age in court and also insisted that she had no way of telling that the juvenile was a minor.

Teya who was arraigned on charges of indecent assault, argued that she had no way of knowing that her alleged victim who she met on an adult dating site was only 13-years-old due to his stature and his conduct.

Her lawyer,  Moses Nyatsoma argued that the prosecution failed to provide conclusive proof of the boy’s age. According to Nyatsoma, the prosecution has failed to provide the defence with the boy’s birth certificate proving his age, despite being asked to do so.

Zimlive quoted the lawyer as saying;

“We have a child who is in school and has a secret phone which nobody knows about. He lured the girl, of course, a 26-year-old, for sex. The child is purported to be 13 but we have not seen any evidence to prove that.

“We have requested his birth certificate but we have not been furnished with the same to date. So as far as the age of the complainant is concerned, we are not sure.”

Teya’s lawyer further argued that his client thought that she had been hired by an adult because of the juvenile’s stature. He stated that the minor’s actions in procuring Precious’ services as well as his conduct once she was on-site are not consistent with those of a 13-year-old.

Nyatsoma added;

“If you look at the stature of the child, his height, the way he is built, you cannot tell by merely looking at him that he is 13 and there was no way my client could suspect he was a minor.

“If you also look at his own behaviour of going on a dating site, getting a sex worker, paying for the taxi, waiting by the gate, entertaining the sex worker inside the house, and whatever else that transpired… it is not consistent with a 13-year-old. In the absence of proof, we will not accept his age.”

It was further learnt that Precious Teya’s appeal against denial of bail by a magistrate will be heard by High Court judge Justice Tawanda Chitapi.

A woman, Oreanna Myers, 25, from West Virginia murdered her five children, burnt her house with their bodies inside and then fatally shot herself in December.

Myers, was the mother of three of the kids and stepmother to the two others, according to police and shot all five in the head with a shotgun.

Myers shot each of the children inside the house, then walked outside and turned the gun on herself, police said. The children's names were Shaun Bumgarner, 7; Riley Bumgarner, 6; Kian Myers, 4; Arikyle Myers, 3; and Haiken Myers, 1.

Myers and her husband, Brian Bumgarner, lived in the tiny town of Williamsburg, W.Va., about 30 miles from the Virginia state line in southeast West Virginia.

Her husband was staying with relatives on  Dec. 8, the day the tragic incident occured because his car had broken down and he needed transportation to work.

Investigators say they found several text messages from Myers to Bumgarner before Dec. 8.

“You’ll have nothing to come back to but [a] corpse. No one cares why should I?” Myers wrote in one text.

“Money will come and go, once I go there’s no replacing me. I beg and cry for help but never get it. It’s my mental health that needs tending to–help me– I do not care anymore.”

Myers left three separate notes besides her body, including a chilling confession.

“I had shot all of the boys in the head. I had set house on fire. I had shot myself in the head,” Myers wrote.

“I’m sorry. Mental health is serious. I hope one day someone will help others like me. Mental health is not to joke about or taken lightly. When someone begs, pleads, cries out for help, please help them. You just might save a life or more lives.”

In another note, Myers wrote, “This is no one’s fault but my own. My demons won over me, and there’s no going back. So sorry I wasn’t strong enough.”

Police say Myers had no documented history of mental health problems and that Child Protective Services was never in contact with Bumgarner or Myers.

The County Sheriff Bruce Sloan, absolving any possibility of foul play, said physical evidence matched Myers’ account in her confession and encouraged anyone battling mental health issues to seek help.

British-Ghanaian rapper, Solo 45, who held four women against their will and repeatedly raped them, has had his prison sentence increased.

The Grime star, whose is real name is Andy Anokye has been told he will serve an additional six years, the Court of Appeal ruled.

Anokye was convicted at Bristol Crown Court of 30 charges that spanned the course of two years. These were 21 rapes, five counts of false imprisonment, two counts of assault by penetration and two of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He was given a 29-year extended sentence, made up of a 24-year jail term and an extended licence period of five years, in July last year.

Update: British-Ghanaian rapper, Solo 45, who raped four women 21 times has jail sentence increased

Following a hearing on Friday, senior judges concluded the sentence was "unduly lenient" and increased it to 35 years - with a 30-year jail term and five years additional licence.

The judges said the original sentence did not reflect the fact he carried out multiple offences of rape against four separate victims.

His sentence was referred to the court by the Attorney General's Office (AGO) under the unduly lenient sentencing scheme.

Solicitor General Michael Ellis QC said the decision to increase it “recognises the severity of the abuse” and “the danger he poses to the public”.

A bid by Anokye to appeal against the length of his original sentence was also rejected.

Anokye, who was signed to Island Records and had collaborated with Stormzy, JME and Wiley, was described as a 'violent, controlling narcissist and a bully' by prosecutors during the case.

Graphic video clips filmed by Anokye were played to the jury, in which the rapper was seen interrogating the women about previous sexual partners, slapping them, insulting them, and raping them.

 .

He claimed the acts were part of consensual role play.

Judge William Hart, passing sentence in 2020, said Anokye had "become addicted" to the "perverted pleasure" he took from abusing the women.

The judge said his career "was flourishing at the time" and he "would have gone to great heights".

The judge added: “They are in no way tarnished by your misdeeds which you carried out in a private way.”
