Glory For Struggling Cock-sock Consumers As Free Food Aids Are Promised To Be Spiked With A Free Condom

 

After a major national outcry – especially from sex workers – over the skyrocketing prices of condoms in the country,  the World Food Program (WFP) in collaboration with the United Nations Fund for Population Agency (UNFPA) have embarked a programme to freely distribute nearly 2 million condoms at over 1500 food aid distribution points in the country’s 60 districts.
This comes after the price of a pack of Durex Condoms shot up to between ZWL$107 and $119 while free condoms being distributed in clinics and beer halls haven’t been accessible over the past few months amid the COVID-19 induced mandatory lockdown restrictions.
It is indeed glory for the johnny-bag users who had been caught between a rock and a hard place.
Sex workers and the general population had lamented over the development that possed a threat in their profession and could have led to the increased number of HIV and AIDS infections in the country.
Speaking The Mirror, WFP Representative and Country Director Eddie Rowe confirmed that the two organisations had decided to come to people’s rescue and spike food aids – being distributed monthly across the country – with both male and female condoms.

“Food distribution points are deep in the communities, making them easier and more convenient for people to access essential and life-saving SRHR services, including condoms that are key for preventing unintended pregnancies and HIV/STI infection prevention and transmission,” said Rowe.

It is understood that over 1,8 million male condoms and 88,000 female condoms have been delivered to the WFP organisations through the country’s pharmaceutical company – Natpharm and the distribution process is expected commence as soon as possible.
