UYO FASHION WEEK - (Grand Opening 2022)

The 2022 edition of Uyo Fashion Week has begun with an opening ceremony, master seminars, and a business pitch competition for creative businesses.

The event, which began on Monday, April 25th, will conclude on Saturday, April 30th, 2022.

The Honourable Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Akwa Ibom State, Mr Orman Esin, declared the week open and praised the organizers of the Uyo Fashion Week for bringing the entire Nigerian fashion industry to Akwa Ibom State.

Esin said the week long fashion expo is not only an addition to the tourism profile of the state, but also an investment into the state’s creative sector.

Earlier in her remarks, the convener, Uyo Fashion Week 2022, Lady Mae Edmond described the fashion industry as a gold mine that has the capacity to gainfully employ a good percentage of the populace while contributing meaningfully to the Nation’s economic growth.

Mae Edmond criticized some governments for ignoring the creative sector and asked them to pay more attention to it.

The convener disclosed that the activities planned for Uyo Fashion Week 2022 were carefully chosen to stimulate creativity and commercialization, which will ultimately assist the creatives scale.

The UFW 2022 opening ceremony included a keynote lecture by Pastor Imo-Abasi Jacob, CEO of Ibom Air, master class sessions with George Uriesi and William Anwana, and a business pitch competition.

According to a schedule made available to journalists by the organizers, masterclasses, panel discussions, and business pitch competitions will continue on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, while fashion runway shows will take place on Friday and Saturday.

According to the statement, all events will take place at the Ibom Tropicana Entertainment Center on Udoudoma Avenue in Uyo.
