Former Chelsea striker, Diego Costa has reportedly reached an agreement with Benfica after the Portuguese club tabled an offer of a two-year deal worth £5million.

The Spanish international, 32, was released by Atletico Madrid by mutual consent in December and has spent the last three months looking for a new club.

Mundo Deportivo report that Costa has been speaking with his some clubs, and even turned down an offer by Ligue 1 side Marseille to join them.

It has been reported that Benfica have offered the 32-year-old £2.6m a season to play for them, and Costa has agreed to the move in principle.

The money being offered is said to be impressive for a player that fell out of favour at the Wanda Metropolitano last year.

Costa is now expected to join Benfica in June, but he is still leaving the door open for a better option and is yet to fully commit to the Portuguese giants.

Cristiano Ronaldo was presented with a special commemorative shirt for breaking Brazil legend Pele's official goalscoring record of 767 goals.

The Juventus and Portuguese superstar overtook the Brazilian's total last weekend by netting a hat-trick in his side's 3-1 victory Cagliari to take his own tally to 770 goals.

Before the Old Lady's Serie A fixture with Benevento on Sunday March 21, which they lost 1 - 0 at home, Ronaldo was handed a shirt with 'G.O.A.T 770' on the back, claiming that the Portuguese forward is the 'Greatest Of All Time'.

The presentation was done by Juventus president Andrea Agnelli.

On achieving the milestone in his career, Ronaldo wrote on Instagram: 'Today, as I reach the 770th official goal in my professional career, my first words go straight to Pele.

'There's no player in the world who hasn't been raised listening to stories about his games, his goals and his achievements, and I'm no exception.

'And for that reason, I'm filled with joy and pride as I acknowledge the goal that puts me on top of the world's goalscoring list, overcoming Pele's record, something that I could never have dreamed of while growing up as a child from Madeira.'

Pele responded to Ronaldo's comments, posting: 'Congratulations on breaking my record of goals in official matches.

'I admire you a lot, I love watching you play and this is no secret to anyone. My only regret is not being able to give you a hug today.'

Ronaldo's tally of goals includes 668 at club level, including 188 for Manchester United and 450 for Real Madrid, while he has also scored 120 goals at the international level for Portugal.

In 2009, Barcelona coached by Guardiola won La Liga, the Copa del Rey, Supercopa de Espana, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup.

Bayern manager Hansi Flick took over as interim boss in November 2019 following the sacking of Niko Kovac.

Since then, Flick has remarkably won more trophies (6) than he has lost competitive games (5).

The 33-year -old forward will now miss Uruguay's upcoming games against Argentina and Bolivia after he landed a two-match ban for a challenge on Richarlison last year.

In the World Cup qualifier, Cavani was dismissed following a mistimed tackle in the 71st minute after he landed squarely on the Everton forward's ankle.

Initially, the referee gave him a yellow card but was advised by VAR to check again on the pitchside monitor. He was then given his marching orders and Uruguay went on to lose the qualifier 2-0.

"I think it was a ball dispute, he went over the top," Richarlison said after the game. "If my foot was stuck it might have even broken my ankle, but I think it wasn’t bad. He tried to steal the ball and ended up missing."

Uruguay face Argentina and Bolivia in the March international break and FIFA confirmed Cavani will not be able to play in either match. The ban will be beneficial to United as he will be fully rested for the final weeks of the season after the March international break.

Chelsea billionaire owner, Roman Abramovich has written a message of support to his player Reece James and the first-team players after the right-back was racially abused on social media.

The Russian, 54, who hardly makes public statements has made the rare move stating he will increase funding to help the club tackle racial discrimination.

James is one of several players to receive racist abuse on social media recently.

Last week, West Brom contacted the police over an alleged racist message sent to midfielder Romaine Sawyers.

Also Manchester United players Axel Tuanzebe, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial were also racially abused on social media after last Wednesday's home defeat by Sheffield United.

Abrahomich is now throwing his weight behind his players.

"I am appalled by the racist abuse targeted at Reece on social media," wrote Abramovich in the letter addressed to all Chelsea players.

"We cannot allow this to continue unchecked."

Abramovich added: "I know that several of our players have been the targets of hate and discrimination on social media.

"It shocks me that only days after we commemorated Holocaust Memorial Day, we as a society do not seem to have learned the lessons of our shared past and the consequences that hate and discrimination can have.

"I have directed the board to further increase the club's efforts in this area and I will personally direct more funds towards this important work. We will be setting out our actions as a club in the coming days."

Wayne Rooney has retired from football at 35 after being appointed as permanent manager of Derby County on a two-and-a-half-year contract until the summer of 2023.

The former Everton,  Manchester United, and DC United striker, had been in charge of the EFL Championship club since the departure of Phillip Cocu in November.

"When I first arrived back in the United Kingdom I was completely blown away by the potential of Derby County Football Club," Rooney said in a statement. The Stadium, training ground, the quality of the playing staff and the young players coming through and of course the fan base that has remained loyal and supportive.

"Despite other offers, I knew instinctively Derby County was the place for me. To be given the opportunity to follow the likes of Brian Clough, Jim Smith, Frank Lampard, and Phillip Cocu is such an honour and I can promise everyone involved in the club and all our fans, my staff, and I will leave no stone unturned in achieving the potential I have witnessed over the last 12 months of this historic football club."

Chief executive Stephen Pearce added: "We are delighted to confirm the appointment of Wayne Rooney as our new manager.

"Our recent upturn in results under Wayne was married together with some positive performances, notably the 2-0 home win over Swansea City and the 4-0 victory at Birmingham City.

"During that nine-game run we also dramatically improved their defensive record and registered five clean sheets in the process, while in the attacking third we became more effective and ruthless too.

"Those foundations have provided a platform for the club to build on in the second half of the season under Wayne's guidance."

Following the appointment, Rooney decided to retire from playing with immediate effect to concentrate solely on his new role.

Rooney retires as Manchester United and England's all-time record goalscorer and will go down as one of the best players of his generation after an illustrious 19-year career.

He scored 253 goals in 559 games at club level and hit 53 in 120 caps for England to break Sir Bobby Charlton's record.

The 35-year-old also won a total of 16 major honours at United, including five Premier League titles, three League Cups, one FA Cup, one Champions League, and one FIFA Club World Cup during a glittering stint.
