 Until journalists continue to promote and celebrate themselves vigorously the way they promote politicians, people will continue to look down on journalism profession.


 

This the sentiment of an ace broadcaster and media celebrity, Akparawa Michael Bush.

Akparawa Michael Bush made the remark when members of 2020 NUJ Press Week led by their Chairman, Comrade Nsibiet John in company of the state chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Amos Etuk, paid a courtesy visit in Uyo residence.

“I don’t think journalists  have been fair to themselves. We hardly promote ourdeours. We only promote politicians,” Akparawa Michael Bush observed.

He acknowledged the contributions of journalists in nation building and in promoting Democratic ideals, noting that despite the role the media in the society and good governance, no body would take media practitioners seriously until they begin to honour and promote themselves into positions of responsibilities.

While pointing out that he was “super excited for the visit, the media administrator posited that he felt honoured by the development and commended the leadership of Union and committee for the recognition.

Akparawa Michael Bush, who described the visit as family meeting, pledged support the 2020 NUJ Press Week, promising to participate fully in activities marking the Week.

The philanthropist particularly lauded the leadership prowess of Comrade Amos Etuk, giving him a pat on the back for restoring sanity in the Union.

In his remarks, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Comrade Amos Etuk acknowledged the Sterling qualities of Akparawa Michael Bush and his conditions to the advancement of media profession and humanity.

Comrade Etuk expressed joy with the media icon for being part of the historic event and restated his determination to continue to bring back respect to the journalism profession.

The Chairman, 2020 NUJ Organising Committee, Comrade Nsibiet John, to Akparawa Michael Bush that the Committee was in his residence to brief him of activities marking the Press Week and sued for support.
